The bombs fell on a girls' school. Eighty-five daughters of Iran will never come home. And Winston Peters "monitors the situation closely."

"Operation Epic Fury, Operation Colonial Cowardice: How Luxon's Government Dances on the Graves of Children While the Taiaha Burns Green" - 29 February 2026

Introduction: The Puppets Dance While Children Die

Kia ora, whānau. Kia kaha, kia maia, kia manawanui.

The taiaha glows green tonight — not with hope, but with the radiation of truth in a world choking on imperial lies. On 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel launched what they grotesquely named "Operation Epic Fury" against Iran — 200 fighter jets, Tomahawk cruise missiles, strikes on Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah. They hit the compound of Supreme Leader Khamenei. They killed security council secretary Ali Shamkhani. And in southern Iran, they bombed a girls' school, murdering at least 85 students who had been learning, breathing, dreaming of futures they would never see. Donald Trump then posted a video on Truth Social urging Iranians to "take over your government" — a call for regime change from the man whose administration has enabled the killing of over 75,000 Palestinians in Gaza.

And what did the government of Aotearoa New Zealand do? Winston Peters — that colonial administrator in a democracy costume — said he was "monitoring the military strikes closely" and advised New Zealanders in Iran to "shelter in place". Monitoring. Sheltering. While eighty-five girls were blown apart in their classroom. This is not foreign policy. This is moral bankruptcy dressed in a diplomatic suit. This is a government that imposes travel bans on 40 Iranian officials for killing protesters while extending military liaison officers to the Israeli state that has killed 75,226 Palestinians since October 2023. This is the neoliberal colonial machine at full throttle, and the exhaust fumes smell of children's blood.

Quick-Hits: What You Need to Know

The facts in 60 seconds: On 28 February 2026, the United States and Israel launched a joint military assault on Iran — codenamed "Operation Epic Fury" by the Pentagon and "Roaring Lion" by Israel — bombing Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, and other cities with 200 fighter jets in the largest Israeli combat sortie in history. A girls' school in southern Iran was struck, killing at least 85 students. Iran retaliated with missiles at Israel and US bases across the Gulf. New Zealand's Foreign Minister Winston Peters responded by advising 23 registered Kiwis in Iran to "shelter in place". That's it. That's the extent of Aotearoa's moral leadership while the world burns.

3 Actions You Can Take Right Now

  1. Demand your MP condemn the attack and call for sanctions on Israel — The same government that imposed 95+ travel bans on Iranian officials has sanctioned exactly two Israeli politicians. Ring your electorate office. Demand parity. Demand the kill chain from Māhia to Gaza is severed.
  2. Boycott the supply chain — Rocket Lab launches spy satellites from sacred whenua at Māhia Peninsula that feed US intelligence agencies linked to Israeli targeting systems. Rakon in Mt Wellington manufactures guidance systems for smart bombs. Know the names. Boycott the brands. Demand divestment.
  3. Support Te Pāti Māori's call for military neutrality and Palestinian recognition — Te Pāti Māori has declared: "Aotearoa is not a puppet of Western militarism. We do not answer to NATO. We do not answer to the Five Eyes. We answer to our people and our values". Amplify their voice. Join the next hīkoi. Make Luxon's complicity politically fatal.

Expert Analysis: Dr Trita Parsi Dismantles the War Machine

The following analysis integrates key insights from Dr Trita Parsi, Executive Vice President of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft, interviewed on 28 February 2026 hours after the strikes began.

The Venezuela Sugar High: How Imperial Hubris Fuels Imperial Crime

Dr Parsi identifies a critical psychological driver behind Trump's decision to bomb Iran: the "sugar high" from the January 2026 capture of Nicolás Maduro in Venezuela. That operation — codenamed "Operation Absolute Resolve" — involved only 200 troops and lasted less than 27 minutes. No American casualties. Trump declared it a triumph, proclaimed the US would "run" Venezuela, and announced American oil companies would seize Venezuelan petroleum infrastructure.

Parsi argues this bloodless coup "cemented a view in Trump's mind that he is operating in a different dimension" — that everyone who ever told him "you can't" was wrong. You can't move the embassy to Jerusalem. You can't give the Golan Heights to Israel. You can't kill Soleimani. You can't bomb Fordow. He did all of it, and there were — from his perspective — no real repercussions. This produced what Parsi calls a "superhuman view of himself" in which Trump treats all warnings about the dangers of attacking Iran with "a tremendous amount of salt and skepticism."

This is not analysis. This is diagnosis. The leader of the most powerful military on earth is making decisions based on a narcissistic feedback loop in which imperial violence always succeeds and never has consequences — because the consequences fall on brown bodies in distant countries that he will never see.

The December 29 Meeting: How Netanyahu Sold the War

Parsi reveals a critical moment: the December 29, 2025 meeting at Mar-a-Lago where Israeli officials "really managed to give Trump the impression that the Iranians are much weaker than they are" and that he had "this amazing once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to get rid of this regime."

We heard it in Trump's own speech — talking about how this has been going on for "47 years" but he is the person with the opportunity. Netanyahu sold Trump a fantasy of easy victory. Trump bought it. And 85 girls in a school in Hormozgan Province paid the price.

Parsi exposes what he calls Trump's "fundamental misunderstanding": the belief that more aircraft carriers in the Persian Gulf equals more Iranian fear equals eventual surrender. But the Iranian theocracy fears capitulation far more than it fears aircraft carriers. As Parsi notes: "Their support base has already shrunk. The people that are left tend to be the most hardline. They will never forgive a surrender. But they can definitely live with a war that is lost as long as it is fought." The White House even declared frustration that the Iranians had not surrendered yet — because Trump had been fed the wrong expectations about how weak they actually are.

The Epstein Elephant: What Files Cannot Be Dismissed

The interviewer raised the question that mainstream media won't: the Epstein files and their potential connection to Trump's Iran war. Parsi — characteristically measured — did not dismiss it:

"There is some missing factors that would explain how we got to this point. Could Epstein be one of them? Absolutely. You cannot rule it out."
Here is what we know: The Epstein files released by the Department of Justice detail extensive connections between Epstein, former Israeli PM Ehud Barak, and Israeli intelligence circles. Emails show Barak visited Epstein's New York residences multiple times and attempted to use Epstein's connections to secure Trump media interviews for Israeli outlets. A book called A Nation Under Blackmail alleges Epstein's involvement in arms sales to Iran during the Iran-Iraq war, with connections to BCCI and Israeli intelligence networks. Former Israeli intelligence officer Ari Ben-Menashe has claimed Epstein was involved in Robert Maxwell's network transferring military equipment from Israel to Iran.

As Parsi stated:

"To completely dismiss the idea that this has something to do with it would be problematic because there's no evidence to exclude it. There's also no smoking gun evidence at this point that says this is the reason why this is happening."

The taiaha glows green on this one, whānau. When a man with unreleased files sits in the Oval Office starting wars that benefit the country most likely to hold leverage from those files — the question is not conspiracy theory. It is accountability journalism.

The Target List: Eliminating Everyone — Even Dissidents

Parsi reveals a chilling detail about the targeting that mainstream media has largely ignored. The strikes did not just target regime figures — they targeted dissidents as well. The house of Mir-Hossein Mousavi, the reformist politician who won the 2009 election and has been under house arrest for 17 years, was also hit. They also targeted the house of former president Ahmadinejad (he was not present; three bodyguards were killed).

Parsi identifies this as consistent with an Israeli strategy to "have a complete power vacuum at the top which makes it far more likely that you will have a civil war or state collapse." This is not regime change — it is regime collapse. In regime change, you install a new government and their track record becomes yours. In regime collapse, you destroy the existing order and wash your hands of the aftermath.

As we saw in Iraq. As we saw in Libya. As we saw in Syria. As we are now seeing in Iran.

International Law Is Dead — Long Live International Rules (For Brown People)

Parsi delivers a devastating assessment of the international response. He notes that Canada's Mark Carney — who gave a celebrated speech at Davos declaring the "rules-based order" was over — could not even bring himself to use the term "international law" when condemning the strikes. The Finnish Prime Minister, who wrote about "values-based realism," likewise failed.

The only European nations that stood firmly on international law were Ireland, Norway, Switzerland, and Spain — the same group that stood firm during the genocide in Gaza.

Meanwhile, bipartisan Congressional voices called the strikes illegal — Senator Chris Van Hollen stated Trump had initiated "an illegal regime-change war against Iran". A war powers vote was scheduled for the following Tuesday, and Parsi argues it appears Trump deliberately launched the operation before the vote — turning the vote from a "turret" into a "deadline".

Representative Thomas Massie, a Republican, called the strikes "acts of war unauthorized by Congress". Ro Khanna demanded: "Congress must assemble on Monday to cast a vote to halt this".

Iran's Response: Fast, Widespread, and Unsurprising

Parsi notes that Iran's counterattack came within 2 hours — far faster than the 12-18 hours of previous exchanges. They were not taken by surprise. Missiles and drones struck US bases across the Gulf — in Bahrain (where a slow-moving Iranian drone penetrated the Fifth Fleet's air defences, to the cheering of Bahraini civilians filming from nearby), Kuwait (where a deflected missile hit the airport), Qatar, and the UAE (where shrapnel struck the Palm neighbourhood in Dubai).

The drone that penetrated the US naval base in Bahrain was, Parsi notes, one of the same slow-moving drones Iran has been selling to Russia for use in Ukraine. The fact that it got through raises serious questions about whether US air defence systems were overwhelmed — or whether the base's defences were simply not designed for the kind of swarm attack Iran is capable of mounting.

The Architecture of Slaughter: What Actually Happened

The assault was planned for months. Israeli military officials admitted they had been coordinating with Washington for an extended period, achieving what they called "tactical surprise". The Israeli Air Force launched approximately 200 fighter jets — the largest combat sortie in its history — striking 500 military targets in western and central Iran. The United States fired Tomahawk cruise missiles from naval ships and attack aircraft from carriers and regional bases.

The Pentagon, with the grotesque theatricality that only American empire can muster, dubbed the operation "Epic Fury". Israel called it "Roaring Lion," and the opening strikes were internally codenamed "Operation Genesis" — as if bombing a sovereign nation were some kind of divine creation rather than mass murder.

The targets included Khamenei's compound, which satellite images show was heavily damaged or destroyed. In the hours that followed, Iran's Revolutionary Guard launched retaliatory missiles and drones at Israel and US military installations in Bahrain, Kuwait, and Qatar. The Houthis in Yemen announced they would resume Red Sea attacks. The entire Middle East was on fire — and it was by design.

The Girls' School: A Crime That Defines an Era

In southern Iran, at the Shajah Taybeh school in Minab, Hormozgan Province, at least 85 people — mostly schoolgirls — were killed when a US-Israeli strike hit during one of the school's multiple shifts. Approximately 170 children were present at the time. The New York Times authenticated footage showing thick black smoke rising from a crumbling structure adorned with pastel-coloured flowers, rescuers sifting through debris with cranes and shovels, and piles of blood-stained and dusty backpacks. In one verified video, a man waved handfuls of school papers and notebooks, crying: "Under this rubble, students are buried... the blood of our loved ones, our students, which you can see on their schoolbooks".

The school sits next to an IRGC naval base — a base that was also struck in a separate attack. In other words: the US and Israel bombed a military target that they knew was adjacent to a girls' school during school hours on a Saturday — the first day of Iran's working week. Iran's foreign minister Araghchi condemned the strike, stating the school was "bombed in broad daylight". US Central Command said they were "aware of reports" and "looking into" them.

As Parsi observed in his analysis: "The fact that it happened on the first day is very significant. This is different from if it had happened on day 21 after a large number of leaders of the state apparatus had been assassinated." On day one, before any significant military targets had been eliminated, the first mass casualty event was 85 dead children. This puts "an impression in the minds of most Iranians what this actually is" — not liberation, but slaughter.

Looking into them. Eighty-five girls dead. The United States is "looking into it." This is the language of empire — clinical, bureaucratic, bloodless. It is the language of a military machine that calls dead children "collateral damage" and moves on to the next target set. This is not a war. This is a slaughter conducted by the richest nations on earth against a people who were already reeling from thousands killed in a government crackdown on their own protests.

The Puppet Master's Strings: Why New Zealand Is Complicit

Peters: The Colonial Administrator

Winston Peters knew this was coming. He said so himself in June 2025, when he admitted New Zealand was "surprised, but not totally surprised" by Israel's first attack on Iran, revealing that the government had been "aware of talk" about the strikes. By February 2026, he was telling media there was a "high potential" for war between the US and Iran.

Yet when the bombs fell — when eighty-five girls died in their classroom — Peters offered nothing but the tepid language of a vassal state. "We advise New Zealanders in Iran or Israel to shelter in place — or leave if safe to do so". No condemnation of the US-Israeli strikes. No demand for ceasefire. No mention of international law. Just bureaucratic safety advice while the world's most powerful military alliance bombed a sovereign nation.
This is the same man who, days earlier, had imposed travel bans on 40 Iranian officials for the "brutal killing of thousands of protestors" — a righteous stance, until you realise this government has imposed precisely two travel bans on Israeli officials, despite Israel having killed over 75,226 people in Gaza since October 2023, bombed hospitals, schools, refugee camps, and aid convoys, and been accused of genocide by Amnesty International and a UN committee.

The Sanctions Double Standard: Iran vs Israel

The hypocrisy is mathematically obscene. Examine the record:

ActionAgainst IranAgainst IsraelAgainst Russia
Travel bans (individuals)95+2100+
Asset freezesMultiple tranchesZeroMultiple tranches
Trade sanctionsYesNoneYes
Arms embargoImpliedNoneYes
Diplomatic expulsionsNoneNoneNone
NZDF liaisonN/AExtended Jan 2026N/A
This is not foreign policy. This is a colour chart for who counts as human. Iran kills protesters and gets 95+ individual sanctions. Israel kills 75,000+ people — the majority women, children, and elderly — and gets two travel bans and a strongly worded letter. Russia invades Ukraine and gets the full sanctions toolkit. The pattern is colonial to its core: white-adjacent states get consequences; the brown bodies in Gaza get "calls for restraint."

The Luxon Doctrine: Complicity as Policy

Prime Minister Christopher Luxon has constructed what Te Pāti Māori co-leader Rawiri Waititi accurately identified as a doctrine of complicity. When the US bombs Iran, Luxon calls it an "opportunity." When Cook Islanders assert sovereignty or Chinese vessels travel through international waters, he leaps to condemnation.

This is the same Prime Minister who in August 2025 said Netanyahu had "lost the plot" and the Gaza assault was "utterly, utterly unacceptable" — then proceeded to refuse Palestinian statehood recognition at the UN in September 2025, with David Seymour calling it a "proud day". Words of concern. Actions of complicity. The Luxon Doctrine in a sentence: say the right thing, do nothing that costs anything.
Defence Minister Judith Collins signed off on $12 billion in military spending right before the US bombed Iran. She extended NZDF liaison to Israel in January 2026, citing the "dynamic and complex operating environment in and around Gaza". Dynamic. Complex. Euphemisms for genocide.

Three Examples for the Western Mind: Understanding Through Tikanga

For readers unfamiliar with te ao Māori, tikanga is the Māori system of values, practices, and law that governs all relationships — between people, between communities, between nations, and between people and the natural world. It is not a museum piece. It is a living legal and ethical framework that offers a devastating critique of everything the Luxon government stands for. Here are three examples that demonstrate the harm, quantify it, and propose solutions.

Example 1: Whanaungatanga (Kinship and Collective Responsibility) — The School in Southern Iran

What happened: On 28 February 2026, a US-Israeli strike hit a girls' school in southern Iran, killing at least 85 students.
The tikanga framework: Whanaungatanga holds that all people are connected through kinship networks that transcend national borders. When 85 girls are killed in a school, tikanga does not ask "were they Iranian?" — it asks "whose mokopuna have been stolen from the world?" Under tikanga, every child belongs to a community, and the destruction of children is the destruction of whakapapa — the destruction of future generations.
Quantified harm: In Gaza alone, over 75,226 people have been killed since October 2023. A Lancet Global Health study confirmed over 75,200 violent deaths in just the first 15 months — 34% higher than official counts. Women, children, and the elderly comprised 56.2% of fatalities. Now the killing expands to Iran. The architecture of slaughter grows.
Western parallel: Imagine if a foreign power bombed a girls' school in Christchurch and killed 85 students. Would Peters "monitor closely"? Would Luxon call it an "opportunity"? The answer tells you everything about whose children count.
Solution: Immediate condemnation of the strikes. Full economic sanctions on both the US and Israel. Recognition of Palestinian statehood. Withdrawal from intelligence-sharing arrangements that enable targeting of civilian infrastructure.
Previous MGL coverage: The Māori Green Lantern documented this colonial double standard in Western Puppets Dance to Israel's War Drums While Aotearoa and Australia Grovel at the Imperial Altar, exposing how Peters' earlier condemnation of Iran was scripted in Tel Aviv while he remained silent on Israeli war crimes.

Example 2: Kaitiakitanga (Guardianship) — The Kill Chain from Māhia to Gaza

What happened: Rocket Lab launches BlackSky satellites from Māhia Peninsula — sacred whenua in the rohe of Ngāti Porou and Rongomaiwahine. Space Minister Judith Collins was warned in 2023 that BlackSky satellites could be used by Israel. She approved the launches anyway. Pro-Palestinian protesters have alleged that BlackSky data feeds into Palantir systems used by the IDF for targeted killing. Meanwhile, Rakon in Mt Wellington manufactures crystal oscillators for smart bomb guidance systems.
The tikanga framework: Kaitiakitanga demands guardianship of the whenua and all living things connected to it. When spy satellites launch from sacred land and the intelligence they gather contributes to a targeting pipeline that ends with bombs falling on schools, hospitals, and refugee camps, the whenua itself is implicated in the killing. The mauri of Māhia Peninsula is being contaminated by the blood of distant children.
Quantified harm: Over 75,226 killed in Gaza. Famine declared in August 2025. 85 girls killed in an Iranian school. If BlackSky satellite data is part of the targeting chain — and the supply chain is "opaque by design" — then New Zealand technology has a direct material connection to the killing of civilians on two continents.
Western parallel: Imagine discovering that your local factory manufactured components for the weapons that killed your family. Now imagine your government approved it, was warned about it, and did nothing. That is what is happening from Māhia to Gaza.
Solution: Immediate moratorium on military-linked satellite launches from Aotearoa. Full transparency on Rakon's military supply chain. Parliamentary inquiry into whether NZ intelligence reaches Israel via Five Eyes. Severing the kill chain.
Previous MGL coverage: This kill chain was first exposed in The Butcher, the Baker, and the Blackmail Maker, which traced the connections from Māhia to Gaza through BlackSky, Palantir, and the NZ military-industrial complex.

Example 3: Mana Motuhake (Self-Determination and Sovereignty) — AUKUS, Five Eyes, and the Surveillance State

What happened: The New Zealand government is in talks to join AUKUS Pillar II. The FBI opened a permanent office in Wellington in August 2025. The government is now deciding whether to share New Zealanders' biometric data — fingerprints, iris scans, DNA — with the United States via the Five Eyes Migration Five programme. Māori data sovereignty expert Dr Karaitiana Taiuru warned that for Māori, DNA is taonga — sacred to past, present, and future generations.
The tikanga framework: Mana motuhake is the right of peoples to determine their own destiny free from foreign interference. Te Tiriti o Waitangi guaranteed Māori rangatiratanga — full sovereignty over their own affairs. When the government hands biometric data to a US administration that disappears people off streets in masks, it violates mana motuhake at its deepest level. When it joins military alliances that drag Aotearoa into imperial wars, it sells the sovereignty that tūpuna fought and died for.
Quantified harm: The same intelligence networks claiming to track Iranian operatives are building profiles on Māori activists and land defenders. Police databases in Aotearoa are acknowledged as racially biased. Sharing this biased data with ICE and US intelligence agencies threatens to export NZ's institutional racism to the world's most aggressive deportation machine. Te Pāti Māori has warned: "The US want to use Aotearoa as a Pacific spy base. This could mean the end of our longstanding nuclear-free policy".
Western parallel: Imagine the government handing your family's DNA to a foreign power without your consent, knowing that power was using facial recognition to round up immigrants. Now imagine you're part of the most over-policed demographic in the country. That is what biometric sharing means for Māori.
Solution: Reject AUKUS. Close the FBI office. Impose a moratorium on biometric data sharing. Enshrine Māori data sovereignty in law. Listen to Dr Taiuru and iwi leaders, not Washington and Canberra.
Previous MGL coverage: The surveillance state and its impact on Māori was documented in The Colonial Attack on Tikanga: How Seymour and Plunket Are Weaponising Gang Patches to Destroy Māori Law, which exposed the connections between domestic surveillance, Five Eyes intelligence sharing, and the targeting of Māori communities.

The Hidden Connections: Seven Revelations

  1. Collins signs $12bn military spend, then extends NZDF to Israel — Defence Minister Judith Collins approved a $12 billion military spending package immediately before the US bombed Iran, then extended the NZDF liaison officer deployment to Israel in January 2026. This is not coincidence. This is preparation for war.
  2. Five Eyes intelligence likely reaches Israel — In September 2024, lawyers including University of Auckland's Treasa Dunworth called for an inquiry into whether GCSB and SIS intelligence was reaching Israel via the US. In October 2024, NZ was caught in a leak of top-secret Five Eyes documents assessing Israel's attack plans on Iran. The intelligence pipeline runs from Waihopai to Washington to Tel Aviv to the targeting computers that dropped bombs on that girls' school.
  3. Israeli surveillance technology on NZ soil — The Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment uses internet-scouring tools developed by Cobwebs Technologies, an Israeli company. The Federation of Islamic Associations raised concerns that the software could eavesdrop on New Zealand Palestinians communicating with family in Gaza.
  4. Mossad has a documented history of violating NZ sovereignty — In 2004, Israeli agents Uriel Kelman and Eli Cara were arrested in Auckland attempting to fraudulently obtain a NZ passport. A third operative, Zev William Barkan, fled before arrest. In 2011, a Mossad spy ring was alleged to be operating from Christchurch, possibly exploiting the earthquake chaos. The investigation was quietly buried.
  1. The Palestine non-recognition protects the kill chain — By refusing to recognise Palestinian statehood, NZ maintains the diplomatic fiction that enables continued arms sales, intelligence sharing, and military cooperation with Israel. Seymour called non-recognition a triumph. For the 75,226 dead in Gaza, it was a triumph for the war machine.
  2. The Venezuela precedent emboldened the Iran strike — Dr Parsi identifies the January 2026 capture of Maduro as the "sugar high" that convinced Trump he could bomb Iran with impunity. The operation lasted 27 minutes with zero American casualties. Trump then declared the US would "run" Venezuela and seize its oil. The lesson he drew: military aggression works, consequences don't exist, and Congress is irrelevant. New Zealand said nothing about Venezuela. And now 85 Iranian schoolgirls are dead.
  3. The Epstein-Israel connection cannot be dismissed — Released DOJ documents show Epstein's extensive ties to former Israeli PM Ehud Barak and Israeli intelligence circles. Barak used Epstein's connections to try to arrange Trump media interviews for Israeli outlets. Only 2% of total investigative data has been made public. As Parsi stated: "You cannot rule it out. To completely dismiss the idea that this has something to do with it would be problematic because there's no evidence to exclude it." When unreleased files exist, and the man sitting on them starts wars that benefit the country most likely to hold the leverage — that is not conspiracy. That is the question that must be asked.

The Voice of Rangatiratanga: Te Pāti Māori Stands

While Luxon cowered and Peters "monitored," Te Pāti Māori spoke with the moral clarity this government is constitutionally incapable of.

Co-leader Rawiri Waititi declared:

"Aotearoa is not a puppet of Western militarism. We do not answer to NATO. We do not answer to the Five Eyes. We answer to our people and our values".

Co-leader Debbie Ngarewa-Packer stated:

"You cannot play the aggressor and the victim at the same time. What we are seeing today is the culmination of decades of US imperialism in the Middle East".

On the February 2026 strikes specifically, Waititi warned:

"Luxon's complicity is putting everyone in Aotearoa at risk. You don't send planes into a war zone 'just in case.' Not without a mandate. Not without telling the people. This Government is dragging us toward World War 3, in secret, without debate, and with zero accountability".

Te Pāti Māori has called for the government to end AUKUS talks immediately, sanction Israel, and cut ties with all countries committing and aiding war crimes. This is what moral leadership looks like. This is tikanga in action — naming harm, demanding accountability, protecting the vulnerable.

Implications: Where the Blood Trail Leads

The February 2026 strikes are not an isolated event. They are the culmination of a colonial architecture that connects the Beehive to the Pentagon, the Waihopai spy base to the IDF's targeting computers, and the launch pads of Māhia to the rubble of Gaza and now Tehran.

Every New Zealander must understand: when Peters "monitors," he is monitoring with intelligence assets embedded in the very alliance that dropped the bombs. When Collins extends NZDF liaison to Israel, she is extending the kill chain. When Luxon refuses Palestinian statehood while Seymour celebrates, they are providing diplomatic cover for genocide.

The Lancet study confirmed what Palestinians already knew — the death toll is far higher than reported. The Gaza Health Ministry counts are conservative because the infrastructure needed to count the dead has itself been destroyed. You cannot accurately count the dead when the hospitals counting them have been bombed. This is the architecture of genocide: destroy the evidence of your own crime.

For Māori, the connections are not abstract. The same government attacking tikanga in the courts, banning gang patches as a weapon against Māori communities, and handing biometric data to the US is the government that enables the bombing of girls' schools in Iran and the genocide in Gaza. The colonial playbook is the same whether it targets Māori in Aotearoa or Palestinians in Gaza: deny sovereignty, criminalise resistance, destroy the legal and cultural frameworks that sustain indigenous life, and call it "progress."

E Tū Whānau: The Path of Rangatiratanga

The taiaha glows green because truth illuminates even the darkest colonial night. The Māori Green Lantern holds this light not for comfort, but for accountability.

E kore au e ngaro, he kākano i ruia mai i Rangiātea. Our people's values — whanaungatanga, kaitiakitanga, mana motuhake — are not relics. They are the living framework that exposes the moral bankruptcy of an empire that bombs girls' schools and calls it "self-defence."

Every child killed in Gaza, every student murdered in that Iranian school, every whānau torn apart by the surveillance state — they are connected to us through whakapapa that transcends borders. Tikanga demands we act. Not monitor. Not shelter in place. Act.

The path forward is clear: sever the kill chain. Recognise Palestine. Reject AUKUS. Sanction Israel. Defend tikanga. Fund our own truth-tellers. Build the institutions of rangatiratanga that can stand against the empire's machinery.

Mauri ora.
